But what can we do when it’s winter and the heavenly melody of the ice cream truck seems to be months away? Don’t worry, you can make snow cones at home in just a few simple steps. Your kids (and the child inside of you) will love you for this!

It would be good to have some small paper cups if you make snow cones, so you have somewhere to put your sweet treat. You can get those fairly cheap at Walmart or a store for party goods.

Let’s start with the ice!
If you have a blender, see if it has a setting for “crushed ice”. If not, you can very easily take a clean paper towel or hand towel and crush it with a rolling pin. Fans of cute appliances can even buy a cute Snow Cone Maker for under $30.

How to make snow cones

Snow Cone Sirup with Kool Aid:
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup water
1 package Kool Aid flavor of your choice

Mix the sugar and water in a medium pan and bring to a full boil. Remove from heat and stir in the Kool-Aid. Let the mixture cool down until it reaches room temperature and place in the refrigerator until chilled. Otherwise your homemade snow cones would just melt away like Edgar the snowman. Pour your homemade syrupy over the shaved ice and tadaaa you have a snow cone! Easy, wasn’t it?

Popsicle Snow Cone
Let a Popsicle of your choice melt over night in the fridge. The next day you will have a sweet liquid syrup to pour over your homemade snow cone.

Healthy Snow Cone
If you want to combine your shaved ice with a healthier syrup, simply pour some cranberry or orange juice over it!

Snow Cone New Orleans Style
This one might sound odd, but it’s incredible delicious and a perfect topping for your snow cone.
Drizzle a little bit of sweetened kondensed milk over your finished snow cone and voilà!
